Your Journey. Our Expertise.

At Travel Lab Sri Lanka, we strive to offer not just tours but thoughtfully curated experiences. This guide includes everything you need to know before, during, and after your trip — covering packing, safety, etiquette, accommodation, and more.

1. Before You Go: Travel Essentials

Passport & Visas: Ensure your passport is valid for at least 6 months. Verify visa requirements.

Travel Insurance: Mandatory for international travelers. Must cover medical emergencies, repatriation, and ideally include personal liability, cancellation, and lost luggage.

Itinerary & Documents: Keep copies (digital and printed) of your bookings, flight tickets, and insurance.

Money: Inform your bank of your travel. Carry a mix of cards and local currency. Budget for optional meals, tips, and activities.

Pre/Post Accommodation: Available upon request. You may be required to change rooms if extending your stay.

✔ Travel Lab provides pre/post-accommodation and visa guidance support.

What to Pack:

• Lightweight, modest clothing (shoulders/knees covered)
• Comfortable shoes
• Sunscreen, insect repellent, toiletries

• Swimwear that respects local customs (modest styles preferred)
• A luggage lock for extra safety

Valuables & Security:

• Leave expensive jewelry at home.
• Use hotel safety deposit boxes.
• Always carry important documents securely (neck wallet or belt bag).

✔ Our accommodation options are selected for safety, comfort, and cultural experience.

3. Transport & Luggage

Private Transfers: All transfers are via comfortable, air-conditioned private vehicles.
Luggage Limit: To ensure ease of travel, pack light. Large suitcases may be difficult to handle.
Seat Belts: May not be available in all vehicles depending on local regulations.

✔ Our drivers are vetted and trained for your comfort and safety.

4. Travel Style & Group Dynamics

Group Travel: Share experiences with diverse travelers. Be patient, punctual, and respectful.
Solo Travelers: Room-sharing with same-gender travelers is standard. Optional single rooms available.
Children Under 14: Allowed with conditions (e.g., cycling ability, adult supervision required).

✔ We aim to build inclusive and respectful travel communities.

5. Safety & Local Laws

Night Safety:

• Avoid walking alone at night. Use main, well-lit roads and travel in groups.
• Be cautious on public transport — carry backpacks in front, and watch your belongings.

Fire & Emergency:

• Be aware that not all properties may have fire alarms or extinguishers.
• Familiarize yourself with emergency exits in all accommodations.

Rules of Conduct:

1. Respect fellow travelers and local customs.
2. Responsible Drinking is encouraged.
3. Group Leader Authority is final in operational or safety decisions.
4. No Romantic Relationships between staff and clients.
5. Report Concerns Immediately to your group leader or emergency contact.

✔ We believe in mutual respect and ethical conduct for a positive travel experience.

6. Spending, Tipping & Optional Activities

Spending Money:

Every traveler has different spending habits. Budget for:
• Optional meals and drinks
• Entry fees and souvenirs
• Laundry and personal expenses

Tipping:

Not compulsory, but appreciated. Tip small amounts in local currency to show gratitude.

Optional Activities:

Not part of the core itinerary and subject to availability. Use your own judgment. Travel Lab makes no representation about the safety or standards of third-party operators.

✔ Group leaders will assist in booking optional activities with reputable providers.

7. Weather & Activity Adjustments

• Inclement weather may require rerouting or cancellation of certain activities.
• In such cases, support vehicles may replace walking/cycling segments.
• Your group leader will decide any changes for safety reasons.
✔ Flexibility is key — your safety is our priority.

8. Local Dress & Cultural Sensitivity

• Conservative Dress is required in most Asian countries.
• Cover shoulders and knees, especially at religious sites.
• Swimwear should be modest.
• Singlets, short shorts, or topless sunbathing are not acceptable.
✔ Travel Lab provides cultural briefings to help you blend in respectfully.

9. Solo Travel & Inclusivity

• We welcome solo travelers and arrange shared rooms by gender.
• If your gender identity differs from your passport, contact us for tailored arrangements.
• Single supplements are available for those who prefer their own space.
✔ Our commitment is to safety, inclusion, and comfort for all.
